NASCAR Hall of fame!
Charlotte is the choice for the NASCAR Hall of Fame! Check out the story here. This is my home and I am pumped! This is just another crown for the Queen City! Thanks to Joe Kennedy for bringing it to my attention.

I love NASCAR too! To the great amusement of most of my friends. They think it terribly funny that an attorney is so into NASCAR racing.
Oh, wow. I'm feeling the need for a road trip.
We love NASCAR, too, and have been Mark Martin fans for a while. Even seen him live and in color, stayed with the CEO of his trucking company, and been in the background of one of his commercials.
When we lived in Texas, we volunteered with TxArm, a ministry to NASCAR fans at Texas Motor Speedway. It was a blast!!!! We got our college students hooked on racing, too, and really miss getting to go every year.
I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with Joshua the first time we went, but wasn't about to miss the race!!! Interestingly enough, his first sentence was "uh-oh, da car wecked!!!!" (we were watching a race on TV, and one of the LaBontes went into the wall.)
I love Nascar as well, but today was once again a step in the wrong direction. It seems that Nascar is alienating its followers on a regular basis.
Nothing against Charlotte, I enjoy visiting, its a beautiful city, but what does it have to offer the Hall of Fame. My guess is it will bomb after a few years due to traffic flow. Atlanta has more traffic and larger convention crowds to support this much need facility.
My case goes to Taladega and Dawsonville, GA. where each has tried their hands at Nascar shrines, only to find that traffic count does not support it. I realize the numbers when it comes to Nascar teams and drivers home, but if that were the only reason for Charlotte then why not have all the races there?
Oh well, just my feelings.
Craig, ESPN says Birmingham was in the running, but never Talladega. They were also the first team to bow out. Followed by Michigan and some others. The last three were Atlanta, Daytona, and Charlotte. Charlotte is a good central location, but I'd think Daytona would be a good place too.
Then again, I don't know why I'm even involved in this discussion. I don't even follow racing.
Craig,
I use to live in the big ATL. There is way too much traffic to have the Hall of Fame there. Charlotte is a NASCAR town and a great place to live.
...nascar!?! you're kidding right?
i just can't get into it... something about guzzling all that gas, the waste of cheap beer, the waste of gas (did i mention that already?) and the minature rv cities that clutter the landscape. gimme college football any day! oh, uh... wait a minute...
(okay, okay. someone had to make a post against nascar. sorry it had to be me. to hard feelings, eh?)
"the waste of cheap beer"
I never thought I'd hear that phrase. Please can somebody tell me what beer's higher calling is such that one could ever say it was wasted on something, especially the cheap variety? I do believe Adam has just insulted NASCAR fans as being on the very bottom rung of society. They don't even merit getting to drink the cheap beer.
Ha! I'm not a beer drinker myself, but thanks for making me laugh!
Adam,
I love Football as much as anybody esp. since Alabama owns college football! :)
But NASCAR is awesome. You go to one race and you are hooked. The noise and vibrations plus the colors are vibrant in person. The strategy is cool too!
Dale Jarrett is my man! 88 Race that truck!
P.S. Kiki, I do like Mark Martin and his faith rocks! I'm glad he's not driving the Viagra car anymore!
Kevin,
I like the whole Jarrett family. They are also incredible people. Dale and Ned both give testimonies sometimes at MRO (Motor Racing Outreach) events. Joe Gibbs was another person who did so often. And Jeff Gordon......once upon a time. But we won't go there.
Since you seem to be in the know on NASCAR stuff--did Tony Stewart accept Christ recently? His acceptance speech this past year floored me!!! He sounded like a different guy!!!!!
BTW--I wasn't a huge fan of the Viagra sponsor either--Valvoline was much better. : )
Adam--college football does rock--especially OU!!!! Go Sooners!!
But I agree with Kevin. You would change your mind about NASCAR if you ever went to a race.
