Church Telemarketers..........

Today I had a telemarketer from you know where call and harass me. I don't know what is worse than unscrupulous so called "Christian" telemarketers weaseling their way through our secretaries by lying. Joe G. from an un-named pictorial directory company lied his way through my secretary today and wasted my time for something I don't need. Then he harassed me for several minutes trying to make me feel guilty for not using his services. Give me a break! If we need a directory, we will call you. Mr. Joe got my blood going by lying and using very un-Christian practices to waste my study time. I am writing this as therapy. Thanks for indulging me. :)

Must have been the same guy that did that to me a couple of months ago.

The other day I had an evangelist who preached at my church years ago- before my time- call the office at 8:15 AM to solicit a preaching engagment. He acted like he was my best friend though I did not know him and that I should jump at the chance to book him. It took me a couple of hours to get over that call. Maybe its the carnality coming out in me. It happens!!!!

Jamie,

I realize people need jobs, but that is one I don't understand. I don't need interuptions from telemarketers. The only interuptions I need are from people who need ministering to.

8:15 a.m.! The nerve. Don't they know pastors don't wake up until at least 9:30 a.m. ;)

Seriously, we have that problem here at the law office too. We usually don't interrupt the attorneys in meetings, etc. unless it is urgent or their family. Telemarketers have managed to convince me they were family on more than one occasion ... and got me in a lot of trouble for the interruption of the attorney.

It does get infuriating. In the example of the pictorial directory ... what if you were inclined to do one for your church, the unchristian way the person went about getting you on the line would not help any sale. I don't know why people don't just call and say ... "Hi, I'm selling [fill in the blank]. Do you need one?" Short, sweet, and to the point.

The directory guys can be bad. But the worst sinners have to be those pushing videos for your church to review. Often they slide right by the secretary and they do not take "no" for an answer. Would Christ hang up on these guys after politely telling them, "no"?

Have you had the ones who are outsourced from India trying to get you to register your church with their phone book, or something? I love those, because we went to India 2 years ago on a mission trip and I get to start talking with them about where they live, and what not, and how I visited there. Sometimes, if you play it right, it can be a blast.
