Tom Hanks: Church Marketer......

Tom Hanks says The Da Vinci Code could help church leaders to draw in bigger crowds. Read the story here. I haven't read the book because I don't read Novels. I enjoy leadership and self-help books. Maybe Tom is right. What do you think?

Personally, I think Tom Hanks is talking out of both sides of his mouth. That comment is merely to put off the church/conservative groups who are against the movie. Yes, it probably will drive people to churches, to either get the story confirmed or refuted. But realistically, I think he is trying to sway those on the fence by making it OK to pay the $8-10 a head to see the movie! It's all about the box office. Oh, and I hear Josh McDowell has written a small informational book and you can buy it here: http://www.campuscrusade.com/DaVinciquest/
He is also touring and speaking. I haven't read the book either, but I will buy the book by JM so I am prepared for any questions that arise.

i'm currently reading the book. i'll be blogging about it later next week from a literary perspective (there's tons and tons written from spiritual and historical perspectives already). suffice it to say, willow creek is trying to maximize on it as well. lee stroble just came out with a small, pocket-sized bible study guide that explores the questions raised by the book/movie. i think this is responsible response to the mouthpiece of our contemporary culture: movies and media.

tom is mostly right in what he says, but i'd like to see it in context.

I have never been able to read Novels except for A New Kind of Christian and I don't think it was really a Novel. Maybe I should read it or I'll just see the movie.
